markus staudinger

Mag. Markus Staudinger (b. 1974) holds a master's degree in ecology and is a PhD fellow of the Department of Botany of the University of Hamburg. His PhD thesis deals with population-ecological investigations in arid ecosystems in southern Morocco. His expertise covers habitat mapping, cultural landscape research and ecological profiling of landscapes. He has been an academic researcher for the IMPETUS-Project (integrative management project for sustainable use of fresh water in west-Africa) coordinated by the University of Cologne, Germany, from 2001-2004. He has spent a total of 11 months on field research in southern Morocco in these years. He is currently working as an independent biologist in several projects dealing with habitat mapping and conservation biology. His teaching activities cover the ‘Theory of Sustainable Development' (University of Vienna, 2000) and an undergraduate course in Human Ecology (University of Vienna, 2005). Numerous excursions have led him to Greece, Tunisia, Georgia, Armenia, Russia and Jordan. He participated in the 3rd Biennial Conference of the European Society of Ecological Economics in Vienna in 2000. In June 2003, he participated at the 46th Symposium of the International Association for Vegetation Science Naples, Italy with a talk on the 'Spatial Patterns and Vegetation Dynamics of Degraded Rangelands in the Draa-Catchment, Southern Morocco'.
